All activities of Open House Hong Kong ⇨
The birth of the Hong Kong Arts Centre in 1977 was epochal, built under the advocacy of Tao Ho, S.F. Bailey and Lo King-man, as a non-government arts organisation “of the people, for the people and by the people”. The building itself exemplifies art, centered around the concept of “threes.” Architect Tao Ho used the triangle as the Arts Centre’s basic structure, minimising the number of support beams in the building. The atrium stairs connect different function spaces, and even contained hanging air conditioning pipes back in the day, an art piece in itself. The unique triangular structure of the HKAC building is the full embodiment of the Bauhaus style, which combines aestheticism with practicality. In merely 10000 square feet of space, the Arts Centre provides comprehensive artistic facilities, including a theatre, recital hall, galleries, and even office spaces and culinary facilities.
