Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D stands tall as one of the most celebrated works for the violin of all time with its exquisite lyricism, effervescent energy and inextinguishable light. How does this work, written in the late 19th century for the legendary violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim, remain ever relevant on the concert platform today? How has this concerto, rather unusually straying from the virtuosic pyrotechnics and wow factors typical of that time but no less challenging in any way, captured the hearts of all?
