JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power — Art Walk: Before a Passage
Programme info (Free admission, registration is required. All activities will take place on the 2/F of the pier. There will be no ferry ride.)
Interdisciplinary Experiential Installation + Happenings
An interdisciplinary orchestration of visual arts, interactive installations, soundscape, movement performance, site-specific writing and reading, Before a Passage meanders at the North Point (East) Pier as it looks upon the adjacent North Point Car Ferry and its eponymous poem by Hong Kong poet Leung Ping-kwan (Yasi).
Collaboratively created by ceramicist Annie Wan, media artist Kingsley Ng, composer Fung Lam, choreographer Chloe Wong, curator Stephanie Cheung and a team of cross-disciplinary art practitioners, Before a Passage awaits people from all corners.
The juxtaposition of the unique pier site and the arts installations create a sanctuary of “transitional” space and time that sends visitors on their reflective journeys. Art Walk: Before a Passage features a series of interactive arts installations: Bathed in the sunset and the flickering lights, visitors step onto ceramic fragments, sway on the swings that trigger a chain of ceramic wind chimes swaying and tinkling, creating a contemplative soundscape that interweaves with sensual tones of automated singing bowl devices and ambient sound. The installations provide a tranquil haven of peace and serenity alike Japanese karesansui (dry landscape).
There are also reading and listening stations at different corners of the pier. Visitors are invited to leave their marks through social media or on-site writing. During the exhibition period, happenings comprising music and movement performance will be showcased every Friday, Saturday and Sunday within specified periods. Created by composer Lam Fung and choreographer Chloe Wong Ching-ting.
In light of the latest COVID-19 situation, the date and time of programme are subject to change. Please stay tuned for the latest updates on JCNAP website before visiting.
